Marina Port Valencia is laying groundwork for its Environmental Monitoring Programme.
Initiative led by Cátedra del Mar Centre for Innovation, a project by Marina Port Valencia in partnership with the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the University of Alicante.
Surface and deep-water samples collected across marina to analyse water quality conditions.
Within the framework of the Cátedra del Mar Centre for Innovation and Sustainability in the Yachting Industry, promoted by Marina Port Valencia in partnership with the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the University of Alicante and Valencia Port Authority, a water sampling campaign was carried out today at various points across the marina. The campaign has two main objectives:
- I. To carry out a baseline study prior to the start of works in order to establish the initial environmental conditions within the Environmental Monitoring Programme.
- II. To improve understanding of environmental conditions in port waters and the surrounding area.
The campaign included the collection of samples for physical-chemical analysis in the inner basin of the marina, Marina Norte, Marina Sur, the harbour entrance and surrounding offshore waters. Surface and deep-water sampling was undertaken to capture a representative snapshot of water conditions in different parts of the marina.
This action reflects the Cátedra del Mar’s mission to serve as a stable link between academia, industry and public authorities, working to study, pilot and share solutions that raise environmental standards across the industry on the basis of scientific evidence.
The results will also enable the Centre for Innovation to advance scientific research on water quality, providing technical evidence to support decision-making and contributing to more responsible, data-driven port management aligned with the project’s goals of applied research, innovation and scientific outreach.
“Sustainability calls for measurable and traceable understanding. This sampling campaign provides a solid baseline for monitoring the environmental impact of the planned works, while also bolstering scientific capacity to better understand the behaviour of port waters”, Marina Port Valencia stated.
The Cátedra del Mar Centre for Innovation and Sustainability in the Yachting Industry was created to promote research, innovation and knowledge-sharing applied to the responsible management of the marine environment and yachting, all while underpinning Marina Port Valencia’s role as a real-world testing ground for environmental solutions.
