MARINA PORT VALENCIA VIBRATES WITH THE FORCE OF DRAGON BOAT TO BENEFIT THOSE AFFECTED BY THE DANA

Marina Port Valencia hosted the spectacular IX Spanish Dragon Boat Championship 200 meters this weekend, with tests in both DB10 (10 rowers) and DB20 (20 rowers) boats, in which more than 700 canoeists belonging to 29 clubs from all over Spain participated, competing during Saturday and Sunday morning.

It was an event organized by the Dragon Boat Marina Valencia BCS-ACS Club, the Valencian Community Canoeing Federation, the Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation, the Municipal Sports Foundation and Marina Port Valencia, which once again became a benchmark venue for this nautical modality, combining competition, inclusion and solidarity.

In this sense, the participation of more than 80 women who survived breast cancer stood out, giving visibility to this disease and working to raise awareness among the general public, demonstrating the power of sport for rehabilitation.

The championship integrated the senior, veteran and paradagon categories, with teams competing in open, mixed and women’s modalities. The tests were held through series of between 4 and 7 teams in 200-meter courses, the best times qualified for the Final A and the rest added points based on their mark.

The most prominent clubs and teams were the Canoa Kayak Zamora, which led the medal table with three golds (veteran women, veteran mixed DB20 and veteran open DB20), a silver in veteran open DB10 and a bronze in veteran mixed DB10; the Vallkirias del Pisuerga (Valladolid) who won four medals, gold and silver in BCP (people who have overcome breast cancer), silver in veteran women and bronze in absolute veterans DB22 and the Real Club Náutico Torrevieja, which obtained three bronzes, DB12 veteran open, DB22 veteran open and DB22 veteran mixed.

The Dragon Boat combines tradition and collective strength in a traditional boat of Chinese origin, decorated with a dragon’s head and tail, where the crews accompanied by drum and helmsman row in unison with maximum coordination and power.

This is a sporting category on the rise, increasingly practiced and known throughout our territory, which could be followed in streaming through the YouTube channel of the Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation, thus expanding the visibility of the competition and offering a unique spectacle in Marina Port Valencia.

Marina Port Valencia is committed to nautical sports and its values of discipline and spirit of overcoming, in addition to the solidarity nature of the Championship, which with a full collection destined to associations of people affected by the DANA, put the finishing touch to a weekend full of teamwork and companionship.
