Marina Port Valencia is finishing off preparations to host the Spain Sail Grand Prix Valencia this weekend, with the thirteen national teams taking to the city’s waters on Saturday and Sunday. Playing host to the SailGP marks a new milestone for the marina, which has spent the past month adapting its facilities and preparing various spaces to welcome teams, organisers and spectators over the course of the event.

The Rolex SailGP Championship calls at some of the world’s leading sailing destinations, attracting international teams featuring the sport’s top athletes. The Valencia event marks the championship’s first visit to the city, bringing elite competitive sailing even closer to the general public.

Over the past few weeks, Marina Port Valencia has been gearing up its facilities to stage an event of this scale, adapting its spaces and coordinating the necessary works to make sure that everything runs smoothly over the weekend. The sheer scope of the event will see teams, boats, technicians, organisers and visitors descend on the marina, with dedicated areas for the competition taking shape across the site.

One of the main draws of the Spain Sail Grand Prix Valencia will be the chance to watch racing unfold from the Marina Norte waterfront. The close-to-shore racecourse will give spectators a front-row view of all the action, with the F50s flying on their foils and topping 100 km/h.

But SailGP’s impact will extend beyond the purely sporting side of the event. Thousands of people are expected to head to the marina over the weekend, generating footfall in the surrounding area and boosting Valencia’s profile as a destination for major international sailing events.

For Marina Port Valencia, the event is also an opportunity to showcase its facilities and its ability to host a competition on the international circuit. In doing so, Valencia joins the SailGP network alongside other top-tier sailing destinations, further anchoring the city’s longstanding connection with the sea.

The event also comes with the added attraction of Spain’s own Los Gallos team competing on home waters, with the crew being led by Olympic champions Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, two of the standout names in Spanish sailing.

Against this backdrop, Marina Port Valencia will be at the heart of the action on 5 and 6 September, as the sea takes centre stage in Valencia for the weekend. For the city as a whole, the Spain Sail Grand Prix adds another international event to its calendar of activities, drawing in visitors, generating buzz and firmly placing Valencia in the international spotlight.
